Growth is on the Calendar for 2008 for Post Falls

Yesterday’s Power Luncheon was GREAT! Special thanks to our guest speaker Post Falls Mayor Clay Larkin. If you missed this event, you missed out on an excellent opportunity to learn more about Post Falls.

Here is a very quick highlight of what we learned:

• In the next 120-180 days, there will be 6-7 “Big Box” ground breaking, 2 at “The Pointe” and the remaining along the Hwy 41 corridor.
• It took 105 years for the market value of the city limits to reach $1 billion dollars. It took 5 years for it to reach $2 billion. It’s current value is $2.3 billion.
• Kootenai County’s unemployment rate is hovering at 2-2.5%. This has created issues for employers. Sonic had to import workers from other stores up to 5 weeks after opening. They couldn’t find enough employees locally to staff the store.

We learned about new projects, future projects, Smart Growth, Urban Renewal, ITD issues, etc.

According to the Women’s Council of Realtors, members are extremely successful.  Take a look at the following:

Average Age among Members: 54

Average Experience in Real Estate: 18 years
Percentage of Sales Versus Broker Licenses: 63% to 48% (some hold both)
Percentage Affiliated with a National Franchise: 50%

Percentage of Members by Job Function:
Sales 71%; Management 17%
Percentage of Members with an Ownership Interest in their Firms: 22%

Average WCR Member’s Income from Real Estate: $117,900
Among All Full-Time REALTORS®: $52,200
Number of WCR Members who annually refer business to another WCR Member: 9,600

Number Who Have Children Under 18 living at Home: 1 in 6

As President-Elect for 2008, I don’t quite fit some of these stats.  For example, I’m in my 30’s,  I have 2 years experience as a licensed agent and 10 years experience in real estate overall.  I hold only my sales license (though 2008 will see me obtaining my brokers license), I am affiliated with a national firm (GMAC) and head up a team rather than a brokerage.  My job function is a combined sales/management and I do not own a brokerage or have an interest in a brokerage at this time.  And, I have 3 children under 18 living at home.  I’m not going to reveal income levels but suffice it to say, I help the stats above.

Stats are great – and  they show that women who are involved in membership are active, strong, business-minded women.  They are successful women.  If you personally don’t ‘fall into the stats’, do not let that deter you in anyway.  If you haven’t achieved what these stats reveal, membership is definitely for you as networking with successful women will help you achieve your goals.  If you have already achieved (or exceeded) what these stats reveal, we need you to participate and mentor others who would like to build their businesses.
